Sophia & Maliyah's China Camp Session: Single Mom Giveaway Winners

Single moms. Just writing those words gives me a moment of pause. Being a parent is hard - hard in a way that I didn't know 'work' could be hard when I became a mom almost 4 years ago. And I have an amazing, supportive husband who is a great dad (just check out my daughter's current sparkly manicure). So being a single mom - the sole financial, emotional, and physical support for a family - is difficult to even imagine. These women work harder, balance more, and probably sleep a lot less than most of us. And with so many competing priorities, they are less likely be able to invest in professional photos that capture the love and bond they have with their family.

So when I heard that Cristin More of Cristin More Photography was teaming up with other Bay Area photographers to give away photo sessions to five very deserving single mamas, I emailed her to see if we could make it six. She enthusiastically said yes and on May 1st, the winners were drawn at random. My luck was that Sophia, a single mom living in the North Bay with her daughter Maliyah, was chosen to receive my giveaway session.

We met at China Camp around sunset and spent a couple hours laughing, playing, and documenting this amazing mother-daughter combination. I left inspired and humbled and they left with photos they'll have for ever and ever. Here are some of my favorites.
